Kristen Bell

Kristen Anne Bell (born July 18, 1980) is an American actress. Although her first film role was an uncredited appearance in Polish Wedding, Bell previously acted in stage and musical productions. In 2001, she made her Broadway début as Becky Thatcher in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. She gained fame as the title role on the critically acclaimed television series Veronica Mars from September 2004 to May 2007.

After Veronica Mars Bell joined the cast of Heroes playing the character Elle Bishop, and Gossip Girl as the off-screen titular narrator. In 2008, she played the title character in the comedy movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall. She has since appeared in a number of comedy films such as Fanboys, Couples Retreat, and When in Rome. Bell has received a Satellite Award and Saturn Award, and has been nominated several times for Television Critics Association Awards and Teen Choice Awards.

When it comes to clothes Bell can’t resist a little theatricality. “I tend to favor things that make me feel like I’m playing a character,” she says. “I gravitate toward vintage styles—equestrian, nautical. I’ve been loving a blue-and-white-striped long-sleeve T-shirt since I was in high school because it makes me feel like Brigitte Bardot sunbathing on the French Riviera.”

For her personal style, Bell knows what she likes and what works for her—but it’s taken some time to get there. “I didn’t grow up with a lot of art or fashion around me,” she says. “I don’t think fashion’s easy—it takes a lot of work.” In the past few years, her stylist-slash-BFF Nicole Chavez has helped her step out of her “clean-cut, all-American-type” comfort zone, pushing her, on occasion, to “get edgy.” These days, her preferred labels—Prada, Miu Miu, Jenni Kayne and Celine, plus DanniJo and Lizzie Scheck for jewelry—is sophisticated. Plus, as Bell notes, she’s still learning. “I like clothes that make me feel feminine as opposed to girly,” she says. “If there’s one too many ruffles or a little too much pink, I will look like I’m going to my own christening.”

Bambi for Maniamania

Maniamania, with only two collections to its fledgling name, has transcended time and space with jewellery design. Bringing together ancient elements of occult and Egyptian finery, the freedom and experimentation of the 60s and 70s and that space traveller, David Bowie, Maniamania is creating something unashamedly unique, unlike anything we’ve ever seen on these sandy shores.

Twisted rings, talismanic pendants and etched cuffs give the range an mystical enigma, while the costume elements of volume and colour make Maniamania easy to incorporate in a modern wardrobe. Bottom line: Maniamania is utterly cool.

Summer Peach? Or Malibu Green?

American Apparel just released their new summer line of nail polish shades, and I couldn’t possibly be more obsessed with the luscious pastel hues. As always, the colors are named after the little things that make up American Apparel culture. The khaki “California Trooper” refers to the ubiquitous California Highway Patrol, “Malibu Green” is found in the shades surrounding the company’s store on the Pacific Coast Highway, and “Butter” and “Summer Peach” remind us how delicious a Southern California summer can be. Each bottle is priced at $6 a pop, and a 3-pack goes for $15 in-store and online.

Mélanie Laurent

Mélanie Laurent (21 February 1983) is a French actress, director and writer. To international audiences she is probably best known for her role in Inglourious Basterds (2009).

Laurent was born to Annick, a ballerina and Pierre Laurent, a voiceover actor (who dubs the character Ned Flanders in the French version of The Simpsons).

The actress got her break through thanks to the 2006 drama Je vais bien, ne t’en fais pas for which she won a César Award for Most Promising Actress.

In 2008, Laurent directed and wrote De moins en moins, which was nominated for Best Short Film at 61st Annual Cannes Film Festival. It is a 7-minute film about a patient who, in front of her psychiatrist, “remembers less and less”. Laurent also directed A ses pieds, an erotic short film aired on the French television Canal + in 2008.

She is currently recording her first album with Damien Rice between Woodstock, New York and Rice’s home in Ireland. Next year she’ll be starring alongside Ewan McGregor in the Mike Mills drama Beginners.

Petit Bateau Look book Fall 2010

If there’s one thing the French taught us, it’s that you can’t go wrong with stripes. Whether they’re conventionally beautiful, unorthodoxly alluring, or straight-up stunning, all these kids have an interesting story to tell to inspire you to work on your own beauty!

Among those kids, two Belgian girls: Hanne Gaby Odiele and Natalie Joos.

On Hanne Gaby: A 17-year-old Hanne Gaby Odiele was minding her own business at a music festival in her native Kortrijk, Belgium, when she was approached by a man asking if she was interested in being a model. A golden opportunity or a classic pick-up line? “I didn’t really trust it,” she remembers and adds with a smile, “but now I’m here.”

It was actually only a matter of weeks before Odiele was in New York City doing runway shows. Five years later — several lifetimes in the modeling world — Odiele has transformed from a wide-eyed and awkward elfin into a cool and confident runway fixture, walking in shows like Rodarte, Calvin Klein, Prada, Dries Van Noten and Marc Jacobs, as well as appearing in campaigns for such fancy-pants labels as Alberta Ferretti, Missoni and Balenciaga. Even after so long in the business, there are still “OMG” moments for Odiele. “I was doing a fitting for the Valentino show at Place Vendome, which is also where the after-party was, and it was this sick old building in Paris — and I’m just from a small village!”

Despite her small-town roots, Odiele is most at home in New York City, where she goes about her business as a normal, cute 22-yearold. “I have my apartment, my friends and my boyfriend. We go to bars, watch concerts — yeah, I’m just being twenty-two.”

Hanne wears a dress by Diane Von Furstenberg and sunglasses by Diane Von Furstenberg Eyewear.

On Natalie: Having modeled and earned a journalism degree in her native Belgium, easy-on- the-eyes casting director Natalie Joos knows a thing or two about editing her way through headshots. Joos moved to New York in 1997 and spent six years working for photographer Craig McDean, helping him launch the careers of Belgian beauties An Oost and Anouck Lepere. Now the head of her own eponymous casting agency, she uses her native Flemish (similar to Dutch) to chat up the Dutch girls who are all the rage these days. Joos writes, in English, for fashion magazines on the side, but admits that her journalism skills don’t really help much with casting. “I write good emails,” she says.

But her real talent, of course, is picking the right face — for ad campaigns for clients like Hugo Boss and Rocawear, for shows in New York, London and Paris and for editorials in titles ranging from Purple to German Vogue. “I like a cute, pretty girl with presence and a personality — not the ugly ducklings,” Joos says. Two of her sharpest (and not at all ugly) recent picks are rising stars Jacquelyn Jablonski and Lisanne de Jong, whom she cast in last spring’s Yigal Azrouël show.

“There’s nothing hard about being a casting director,” Joos insists, apart from developing the thick skin required to get through show season. The pentalingual, five-foot-seven blonde’s alternative-career fantasies speak volumes about her versatility: performer (“Sing and dance for a living? Yes, please!”) or designer (Joos considered training to become one in Antwerp) or neurologist. “I am obsessed with the working of the brain,” Joos says. Whatever model joke you’re about to make, she’s probably already heard it.

Natalie wears a top by Miu Miu shorts by Cynthia Rowley, tights by Wolford, shoes by Edmundo Castillo for Tommy Hilfiger, and bracelet Swarovski Atelier for Matthew Williamson.

Tavi in Miu Miu

Tavi (introduction is not needed here, I think the whole world knows Tavi by now) channeling her inner Courtney Love while wearing Miu Miu’s Spring collection. Oh yes, that’s right: Miu Miu’s Spring collection. Has she won the lottery? Oh no, she just got to borrow some clothes from Miu Miu’s office. Sure, no big deal. Happens all the time.

Miu Miu’s Spring collection (all about youth and innocence) was, as Tavi puts it, too good. She claims it even haunted her in her dreams. And I can only second that. ‘Cause honestly, who doesn’t like high-waisted Lolita dresses with naïve animal prints?

Not afraid of color and print, Laffitte adds the fuel to photographer Arthur Elgort’s eclectic shoot. Proving that both bold and soft elements can coexist harmoniously, Keke captures the heart of fashion.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Jacqueline Hathaway (° November 12, 1982) started out as high-school-student-turned-princess Mia Thermopolis in the Disney family comedy The Princess Diaries (2001) but quite quickly she began a career transition with supporting roles in films like Brokeback Mountain (2005). She subsequently co-starred with Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada (2006) and appeared in Becoming Jane (2007) as author Jane Austen. In 2008, Hathaway earned widespread critical acclaim for her lead role in the film Rachel Getting Married, for which she won numerous industry awards, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. This year she starred in the box office hits Valentine’s Day and Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland.

Anne Hathaway cites Meryl Streep and Audrey Hepburn as her icons. But by the looks of it, she’s on her way of becoming an icon of her own.

Alessandra, Milano.

No one wears Valentino like the Italians do. I love how Alessandra looks elegant and edgy at the same time. Like I said, Italy rules the school.

Cute Overload

Paul & Joe Sister takes cute overload to the next level. The younger (and arguably cooler) branch of Sophie Albou’s fashion empire has always had a knack for turning something adorable into something awesome. The label’s fall ’10 collection is no different, with inspiration coming from both Bambi and the babes of Gossip Girl.

Think trousers with bows, preppy button-ups, and ruffled dresses covered in a wide-eyed doe print. I’m completely in love with the raspberry coloured skirt and toggled cape. But don’t let it snow just yet, first there’s Summer!

Hanneli’s bag

Norwegian model/photographer/fashion blogger (she makes me feel so lazy!) Hanneli Mustaparta displays her purse for everyone to see in her latest post In My Bag. I’m always curious to find out what others have in their bags, but it’s kinda rude to just go through a bag. Maybe it’s the voyeur in me .. I don’t know. I might do a bag post myself in the future, but for now let’s take a look at Hanneli’s.

What’s in her bag (a Mulberry Alexa, bien sûr)?

A Canon G10 camera, NARS Copacabana subtle cream shimmer, Bobby Brown concealer in the color Natural, La Prairie concealer for under eyes, YSL lipgloss number 47, Aésop Rosehip Seed Lip cream, The 1st issue of The Gentlewoman with the amazing Phoebe Philo on the cover, YSL wallet, invites to Hermés and Miu Miu fashion shows, her favorite pen which is brandless, Blackberry Bold 9700, two Sandisk memory cards-4GB and camera batteries.

Amanda Peet (°1972) is best known for her roles in romantic comedies like Somehing’s Gotta Give and A Lot Like Love. But the New York-native also appeared in smaller indie films like Syriana and Griffin and Phoenix. In 2006 the Columbia University graduate married screenwriter David Benioff with whom she has a daughter Frances. They’re expecting their second child this summer.

Peet is now filming Gulliver’s Travels, a comedy about a travel writer who ends up on an island called Liliput where he towers over its tiny citizens.

Backstage during NYFW

It’s the season of Fashion Week: from Bryant Park in New York, to London over Milan and Paris. As designers and their models gather to present their newest collections to the world, photographers are on hand to take thousands of pictures, most during the actual show – with a few photos from the backstage of each show sent across the wires as well.

Alan Taylor gathered a bunch of those backstage glimpses from recent fashion shows, most taken in New York. Starting from above: Vena Cava F/W 10.11, Erin Wasson + RVCA F/W 10.11, Max Azria F/W 10.11 and Vera Wang F/W 10.11.

Who doesn’t know the adorable Drew Blyth Barrymore? From her first role (at only 7 years old!) in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial over Charlie’s Angels to Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, the California native isn’t only a class actress, but since her directorial debut Whip it (2008) also a much rewarded director.

In 2007 the 35-year-old actress became a CoverGirl Cosmetics’ model and spokeswoman and was No. 1 in People’s annual 100 Most Beautiful People list. This month she was awarded the Screen Actors Guild Award and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for her portrayal of Little Edie in Grey Gardens, a movie based on the lives of the eccentric aunt and first cousin of Jackie Onassis.

Spring Inspiration by Isabel

Slouchy boots, fringes, patterns and gypsy-chic. Isabel Marant makes me want to throw away my scarf and mittens and wear nothing but pink feather earrings and easy breezy dresses.

Scott ran away from the Winters cold to Rio Fashion Week in Brazil. Not only did The Sartorialist fall in love with Rio de Janeiro, he also fell in love with Joana. He even calls her his new style star. Can you blame him?

Proenza Schouler Pre Fall 2010

Two gorgeous looks from the Proenza Schouler Pre Fall lookbook. I love the preppy checked shorts and duffle coat combination. And I can totally picture myself wearing the lovely blue lame skirt on a night out with the girls. Aah, winter isn’t officially over yet, and I’m already longing for fall again.

Found this beautiful shot by Connie Wang, through Rackk and Ruin. The dress is so dreamy, and her coral red lips so cute. Oh, and I love how the wind moves her hair. Yes I’m a girly girl, does it show?

Nesli in Winter Wonderland

Another great outfit post by Neslihan from Styleseeking Zurich. Blazer by Joseph Alain Scherrer Creationen, sweater by JJ Benson, hat and jeans by H&M, clutch by Avant Premiere, boots by Graceland and bangle by Mango. The scarf is her grandmother’s and the necklace was a gift from her friend and fellow blogger, Miji.

Back Necklace

According to Caroline Blomst back necklaces are the next big thing. The Swedish fashionista is sure this trend will get hyped this Spring/Summer. It sure gives the bare back a little extra. So why argue?

Zoë Kravitz is Vanity Fair Fabulous

Zoë Kravits talks to Evgenia Peretz about fame and how not to go down the wrong path in the February issue of Vanity Fair.

After landing small roles in No Reservations and The Brave One. The 21-year-old daughter to rocker Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet is ready for more. “Now it’s on me,” says Zoë, who fronts a rock band and stars in three upcoming films: Yelling to the Sky, about a girl growing up in a tough New York neighborhood; a dark high-school film called Beware the Gonzo; and Joel Schumacher’s Twelve, about fast-living Upper East Side rich kids.

“We’re basically bumbling idiots. Rich, pathetic excuses for human beings,” she says. Having had a ringside seat to all that’s rock ’n’ roll, Kravitz couldn’t be more repelled by young people acting stupid. “I’m so close to my parents. I get it. They’d smack the hell out of me if I ever became a cokehead.”

Peretz also talked to Lily Collins, Amber Heard, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and Isabel Lucas. Check out the complete article here.

The floral looks are inspired by chlorophyll-green gardens, sundrenched landscapes and even 70s hippie chic flower-power.

The romantic garden collection is made using organic and recycled materials and will be available in H&M stores from end of March.
